Fire Marshal
The Tyler Fire Marshal's Office is comprised of specially trained personnel who carry multiple certifications and licenses with the State of Texas to carry out its critical functions. The Division is led by the Fire Marshal, with support from the Assistant Fire Marshal and the Administrative Assistant. Additionally, there is one Deputy Fire Marshal on each of the three Suppression shifts and one Deputy Fire Marshal at the Fire Administration who carries out safety inspection and investigative functions within the Division.
The mission of the Tyler Fire Marshal's Office is to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Tyler through the enforcement of fire and life safety codes, investigation of complaints regarding hazardous conditions, educational outreach regarding the dangers of fire, abating unsafe structures, determining the cause and origin of fires within the City of Tyler, and actively pursuing the criminal investigation of those responsible for the crime of arson.
Fire Marshal Joey Hooton
Fire Marshal Joey Hooton began his service with the Tyler Fire Department in 2004. He has held the ranks of Firefighter, Driver/Engineer, Captain, Assistant Chief, and was appointed as the City of Tyler Fire Marshal on September 27th, 2023. He is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Fire Prevention Division to include Inspections, Investigations, and Fire Safety Education to the citizens of Tyler. Chief Hooton holds certifications through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Master Firefighter, Fire Service Instructor, Fire Officer IV, Emergency Vehicle Technician, and Rope Rescue Technician.
Chief Hooton served with the Army's 101st Airborne Unit as well as in the US Army National Guard as an infantryman. His education includes an Associate of Arts in Economics from Tyler Junior College, a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler. He was part of the City of Tyler's Leadership Academy Class 33, the Highly Achieving Leaders Class of 2022, and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. He has served on the Tyler Firefighters Relief and Retirement Fund Pension Board and the Tyler Firefighters Honor Guard. He and his wife, Lori, have two kids and are actively involved in community service.
Assistant Fire Marshal Brandon Davis
Assistant Fire Marshal Brandon Davis began his professional fire service career in 2001. Captain Brandon Davis has progressed through the ranks of Fire Fighter to Deputy Fire Marshal. He then progressed to Captain and was promoted to Assistant Fire Marshal on February 21, 2010. Captain Davis holds advanced certifications in Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, and Peace Officer. Captain Davis is the direct supervisor of the TFD Deputy Fire Marshals.
